This summer package is ideal for students who are interested in Web Site Design & Development. This course will help students understand World Wide Web concepts and all technology stack used in creating a responsive web application or website.
Over the course of 5 weeks, 5 days a week, they’ll join other students in a virtual classroom as they learn the basics of each technology used in website development and design while also help them think algorithmically and develop good programming habits. Ideal for grades 8 through 12.
This course is targeted for students with some familiarity with programming or those who have completed Coding Fundamentals Beginner Levels and Coding Fundamentals Intermediate Levels. Students should have reliable internet connection and good understanding/usage of computer and Zoom.
Students will learn some of the major topics in Web Site Design & Development over the course of 5 weeks including:
Week 1
HTML: This course will teach the fundamentals of Hyper Text Markup Language is taught, taking students from beginner to intermediate level. In this class students will learn the basics of HTML including:
- Tag & Elements including: <html>, <head>, <title>, <body>, <h1> … <h6>, <p>, <u>, <i>, <b>, <center>, <em>, <strong>, <sub>, <sup>, <del>, <ins>, <span>, <div>
- Unordered List
- Ordered List
- Attributes
- Adding images
Week 2
CSS:Â This course will teach the fundamentals of Cascading Style Sheet is taught, taking students from beginner to intermediate level. In this class students will learn the basics of CSS including:
- Inline styling
- Header level styling
- Stylesheet in a file
- HTML Selector
- ID Selectors
- Class Selectors
- Children Selectors
Week 3
JavaScript 1: This course will teach the fundamentals of native JavaScript language, taking students from beginner to intermediate level. In this class students will learn the basics of JavaScript including:
- Intro to JavaScript
- Document
- getElementById
- Query Selector
- JavaScript variable, assignments, operators, arithmetics, functions, objects and events
Week 4
JavaScript 2: Continue with the concept from JavaScript 1 (Week 3) and add more fundamentals of JavaScript and start working on projects. Students will complete two projects:
- Simple Calculator Project: Students will create the HTML and style it with CSS, concepts learned in Week 1 and Week 2. Then will use JavaScript concepts learned in Week 3 and early part of Week 4 to add the functionality to make the calculator work with any given number.
- Tip Calculator Project: Students will create the HTML and style it with CSS. Using concepts learned in JavaScript, they will add the functionality to collect information from the user and perform some calculation and present the result to the user on the website.
Week 5
CMS & Wordpress: This course will teach the fundamentals of Web Site Design and Development, taking students from beginner to intermediate level. We will focus on using the most popular CMS and create a functional website.
